This ministry is in response to Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan, which calls us to love our neighbors who are suffering and in need. The Good Samaritan Assistance Fund is a ministry of care and compassion for our neighbors living in poverty in Covington and Tipton County plus transient persons who come to us for aid. Persons living on fixed incomes, who are elderly or disabled, or folks who have lost their jobs, find it difficult to afford just their basic living expenses. The Good Samaritan Fund assists with the payment of rent or utilities or other necessities.
Each person who comes to the church for assistance has a private conversation with a staff member or volunteer who assesses their need for assistance and the specific circumstances behind their request. Detailed records are maintained regarding all requests made and the assistance provided. The volunteers and staff of Covington FUMC works to ensure funds are used wisely and compassionately.
