The Prayer Shawl Ministry exists to give solace and comfort to those in need by the making and giving of Prayer Shawls. They are meant to wrap and enfold the wearer in God’s unconditional love in times of sorrow and joy.

It all started when Debbie Wilson, a former FUMC member, received a prayer shawl from a church in another state. Debbie was so moved and comforted by it, that she decided to start a similar ministry at Covington First Methodist in April 2005. In the years since, countless shawls have prayerfully been made and over 450 prayer shawls have been given away to those in need of comfort. Many other members of our church have donated gifts to purchase yarn and materials needed to make the shawls. Those of us who make the shawls, either knit or crochet them at home and during our time of prayer and fellowship when we meet once a week.

As with our other Outreach ministries, the Prayer Shawl Ministry is funded through freewill giving and relies on the service of volunteers. For more information, contact our Director of Outreach or call (901)476-9694
